Fish Plants
What every aquarium needs besides fish and water are some aquatic plants. Aquatic plants are a
part of the fish’s biotope. Without Aquatic plants there will be less oxygen in the tank. Also Aquatic plants
provide your fish with a place to hide. Live Aquatic plants provide functionality as well as beauty.
Aquatic plants are a part of “aquascape”. Most fish lovers believe that plants are purely
decorative, but this is not the case. Aquarium plants have a big role in recreating the fish’s natural habitat.

How to add plants to your
fish tank
There are a few rules when adding plants to your fish
tank.
First of all you must check out if the water’s parameters are appropriate for
your plants. Some plants require special water parameters, so it would be ideal to choose plants that are less exigent.
You will have to know the levels of pH, the water hardness, and lighting levels to ensure that
your plants survive.
|
You will need a good substrate for your plants. Without this the plants will die. It is
recommended to use substrate appropriate to the plant’s ecosystem. Plants will usually do fine in aquarium gravel with some fertilizer. The gravel should be about 2-5 mm diameter for you
to be able to plant plants in it.
Another rule is to have good lighting for the plants to survive. Light is the plants source of
life. Light is measured in watts per gallon, so be very careful when you measure these in order for the
photosynthesis to take place. Fluorescent bulbs are the most appropriate light for plants.
When you decide to put plants in your fish tank it is very important to research the fish
compatibility. There are some species of fish that like to eat the plants and then all the effort that you made to
decorate your tank will have been in vain.
